The herd is in

Calm tech advice for when things get a bit much.

Veteran engineers, CTOs, architects, designers and product managers. We've lived through the migrations, the rewrites and the 3am outages, and we're still weirdly relaxed about it. Pull up a chair.

First chat is free, 30 minutes, zero sales pressure.

A true capybara fact

Everybody gets along with a capybara.

Birds perch on them. Monkeys ride them. Ducks sit on their heads and nobody makes a fuss. We work the same way: we're the calm, senior person every side of the table actually trusts.

What we help with

Senior advice, without the drama.

Pick one, mix a few, or just tell us what's keeping you up at night. We'll work out the rest together.

Rescue missions

The project is late, over budget and nobody will quite say why. We find out, calmly, and help you get it back on track.

Tech due diligence

Before you invest, acquire or sign a big contract, we look under the bonnet and tell you what we find in plain English.

Architecture check-ups

Is it over-engineered? Probably a little. We'll tell you kindly, and tell you which bits actually matter.

Hiring and team shape

Your first tech lead, your fifth engineer, or working out why the team you have keeps getting stuck.

AI, minus the hype

What's genuinely useful for your business this year, what's a costly distraction, and how to try it without betting the farm.

Product and design, AI era

Senior designers and product managers who are already surfing the AI wave. They help you work out what to build, design it properly and ship it without wiping out.

A second opinion, any time

"Is this quote reasonable?" "Should we really rewrite it?" "What does this even mean?"

Sometimes you just need someone senior to ask. Keep us on call for the questions that are too small for a project and too important to guess at.

Quick self-check

Signs you might need a capybara.

Tick whatever sounds familiar. No judgement, we've seen all of these. Several of them twice in one week.

How it works

No big-bang consulting. Just a steady soak.

Capybaras don't rush into the water. They wade in, see how it feels, and settle down. So do we.

1

A chat by the pond

Free · 30 minutes

Tell us what's going on. We'll listen, ask the awkward questions kindly, and tell you honestly whether we can help. Sometimes the answer is "you're fine, carry on".

2

A good long soak

Fixed scope · usually 2 weeks

We dig into the code, the team and the numbers, then hand you a short written report in plain English: what's working, what isn't, and what to do first.

3

Stay a while

Ongoing · cancel any time

If it helps, we stick around a few days a month to steer, mentor and be the calm voice in the room. No lock-ins, no surprise invoices.

The capybara way

Four things we picked up from the world's most relaxed rodent.

We don't panic.

Capybaras can hold their breath for about five minutes.

Outages, missed deadlines, the investor call that went sideways. We've been underwater before and we know how long we can stay there.

We adapt to the terrain.

Equally happy on land or in water.

Old systems or shiny new ones, startup or enterprise. We work with what you have, not what we'd have built from scratch.

We lower the temperature.

Best known for sitting in hot springs looking content.

When tech and business stop hearing each other, we translate both ways until everyone is back on speaking terms.

We've seen this before.

Senior hands, every one of us.

Everyone in the herd has spent years designing, building, shipping and running real products. We know which fires are real and which are just a lot of smoke.

Meet the herd

Senior hands, soft fur.

Our advisors are real (and very experienced) humans: engineers, CTOs, architects, designers and product managers, many of them happily surfing the AI wave. Here they appear as their capybara selves, which is more honest than a stock photo of people pointing at a whiteboard.

A capybara in red sunglasses with a backpack, sipping a drink next to a Cappybureau laptop

Pondsworth

Fractional CTO

Has run engineering teams through booms, busts and one truly memorable reorg. Sits in on your leadership meetings, asks the question nobody wanted to ask, then gets everyone agreeing on what happens next.

Off duty: Always packs a backpack, in case a board meeting turns into a camping trip.

A shaggy capybara in a backwards cap and dark sunglasses, next to a laptop, some loose wires and a stack of coins

Mossy

Due diligence and rescues

Counts the coins and follows the wires. Give Mossy a week with your systems and you'll know exactly what you own, what it costs and what's quietly held together with tape.

Off duty: Has never met a spreadsheet it couldn't find the hidden tab in.

A fluffy capybara in a Cappybureau trucker cap and pink sunglasses, typing on a laptop covered in stickers

Sunny

Product, riding the AI wave

A product manager who caught the AI wave early and never fell off. Turns "we should do something with AI" into a roadmap your users actually want, and tries every new tool so you don't have to.

Off duty: Every sticker on that laptop is a tool Sunny tried and politely retired.

A bespectacled capybara with headphones and a Cappybureau cap, peering over a laptop beside a stack of books

Professor Nibbles

Architecture check-ups

Has read the docs. All of them. Asks "what happens when this fails?" in the nicest possible way, then helps you make your system simpler rather than cleverer.

Off duty: The headphones are for focus. The books are for fun. Nobody is sure which is which.

Questions

Things people ask us.

Are you actually capybaras?

Sadly not. We're people with a lot of years in tech who admire the capybara's approach to life: calm, friendly, and quietly unbothered by chaos.

Do you only talk, or do you get hands-on?

Both. We'll happily read your code, sit in on standups and pair with your engineers. What we won't do is quietly become your whole dev team, because that doesn't leave you better off when we leave.

We're not technical. Is that a problem?

Not at all, it's most of our favourite work. We explain things without jargon, and if we slip into it, you're allowed to throw a yuzu at us.

How much does it cost?

The first chat is free. After that, we quote a fixed price for reviews and a simple monthly rate for ongoing advice, agreed up front. No hourly meter ticking in the background.

Will you try to sell us a giant project?

No. Plenty of our best advice is "don't do that". We'd rather you trust us for years than overspend with us once.

Come sit in the warm water.

Tell us what's going on in a couple of lines. A real human from the herd will reply within one working day.
